Lighthouse Church of Chicago is a predominately African American LGBT-inclusive church in the United Church of Christ (UCC) denomination that welcomes all people. That’s right –  we welcome people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, races, ethnicities and class – not in spite of the gospel but because of the gospel.

At Lighthouse, you can expect a relaxed environment where you are encouraged to be your true, authentic self. Sundays at Lighthouse look a little something like this:
  • Warm hugs
  • Coffee, donuts and conversation before service
  • Energizing music (and sometimes dancing!) from our praise team
  • A space that is inclusive and affirming
Lighthouse Church of Chicago is part of the United Church of Christ (UCC) denomination. The UCC has over 5,000 churches and over one million members across the United States. The UCC denomination is the first historically white denomination to ordain an African-American, the first to ordain a woman, the first to ordain an openly gay man, and the first Christian church to affirm the right of same-gender couples to marry. UCC churches, including Lighthouse, welcomes and accepts everyone as they are.

You can find us the first Sunday of every month from August - December at 5600 S Woodlawn Ave in Chicago, located inside Hyde Park Union Church.

From Lakeshore Drive, take the 53rd Street exit and proceed west for ten blocks to Woodlawn Avenue. Turn left and travel south for three blocks to the red sandstone building on the right on the corner of Woodlawn Avenue and 56th Street.
From the Dan Ryan Expressway, take the Garfield Blvd. exit and travel east. Garfield turns north at Washington Park; go north one block, then east on 55th Street. The church is five blocks east, one block south, at Woodlawn Avenue and 56th Street.

The Church Office entrance is the side door on 56th Street.

Parking can be difficult during weekday business hours; on-street parking is generally not a problem on weekends. A multiple-story parking facility is available for a modest fee, with entrances at both Greenwood and Ellis Avenues, south of 55th Street (two blocks west the church). On-street parking is always easier a block or two north of 55th Street.
